Presbytery Happenings
Shepherdstown Church Announces Music Events
    The Shepherdstown church is offering a series of musical concerts in April and May:
  • Ross Crolius, Metropolitan Opera bass with Diane Guernsey, pianist, are in concert Sunday, April 13, at 4:00pm in teh sanctuary.  A suggested donation of $10 is requested to aid the Church youth mission trip.
  • Earthfest is a community gathering with prayers for the earth, song and eucharist, is to be held Sunday, April 20, at 7:00pm in the sanctuary.
  • David Lamotte is in concert at the church on Sunday, May 4, at 7pm in the sanctuary. A suggested donation of $10 is requested. A regular at Montreat events, David has his own style of folk singing with challenging lyrics and unusual tunings.
Organist Lynn Davis Recital
    Organist Lynn Davis will present an organ recital on the new C.B. Fisk pipe organ at the Lexington Presbyterian church in Sunday, April 27, at 3:00pm. The concert is a part of the continuing celebration of their newly installed  instrument. Davis has performed and taught in Europe and the U.S., and has won acclaim for her performances and recordings. She is also in demand as a lecturer and a judge of international competitions.
Back to the Mountains: A Storytelling Festival
    Storytelling is an art form. It is interesting and entertaining, and this festival will feature a group of outstanding storytellers who are joining together in support of the Presbyterian Children's Home of the Highlands in Wytheville, VA. The event is set for June 7 & 8 and also offers music, food and a great way to help benefit the Home. The event also is to honor a former board member, Molly Copes, who died in October or 2005. Fruits of the Spirit Banner Offered
    Winchester First Church has discovered a large elaborate felt banner with a Fruits of the Spirit theme. They have nowhere to use it and offer it to anyone who might be interested. For more information, contact Maren Betts-Sonstegard at maren@firstchurch-winchester.org.

Presbytery Office: New Telephone Extensions
    The presbytery office now has a new phone system in place.  This has required the updating of the phone extensions to reach the staff. Dial the usual number - 540-433-2556 and use these extensions to reach:

Time to Order
Books for 2009

Due: May 2, 2008
    It’s hard to believe but it is time to begin planning for next year already!  Orders for all items – Planning Calendars, Mission Yearbooks, Children’s Mission Yearbooks, Books of Confession and Books of Order – are due in no later than May 2, 2008.   Payment is due with completed forms.

Camp and Conference
Scholarships

Due: April 28, 2008
    The Funds Administration Committee announced it is accepting applications for young people to attend a church related camp of conference or work camp in 2008.  Requests must be received no later then April 28, 2008. A decision will be made by May 6, 2008.  Download an application from the presbytery website and use the  Scholarships/Grants link on the homepage.

Disaster Response Training
    Each Mission Community is sponsoring Disaster Preparedness Training for their congregations in the coming months. Please be sure your church sends representatives to one of these events so you can help your congregation be prepared in the event of an emergency or disaster.
