Shenandoah Greets 2012 With New Staff January 1, 2012, began a new chapter in the journey that will lead Shenandoah Presbytery to its new General Presbyter. Presbytery Council welcomed new Acting General Presbyter Rev. Dr. Randy Webb to the staff as of January 2012. Randy was presented by the Office and Personnel committee at the January 10th meeting of the Council. He will serve part time in the position until the General Presbyter Search Committee secures someone to fill that position permanently. At the November meeting of presbytery, The Rev. Dr. Dan Williams was received as Stated Clerk (acting), a position he has filled previously in another presbytery. His position is termed "acting" until it is determined if the new General Presbyter can fill the combined position as General Presbyter and Stated Clerk. If not, then Dan will remain in the position as Stated Clerk. Both positions - General Presbyter and Stated Clerk - were consolidated under Sally Hinchman who completed her term as Interim General Presbytery/Stated Clerk as of December 31, 2011. Another new staff person, Pam Williams, is currently preparing to become the Treasurer for the presbytery near the end of February 2012 when Lucille Gohdes completes her term as Treasurer. General Presbyter Search Committee Well Under Way The General Presbyter Search Committee has made excellent progress toward their task of securing a new General Presbyter for Shenandoah Presbytery. The committee has been meeting nearly every other week since they were approved at the August meeting of presbytery. They presented the Presbytery version of the Church Information Form (CIF) at the January 10, 2012, meeting of Council for approval. The form is now posted online and the search has begun. The Search Committee requests and deserves our constant prayer and support for the work in which they are engaged on our behalf. Let us hold them up in our individual prayers and in our corporate prayers each time we meet. Members of the committee include Lisa Webb, John Bethard, Ken McNulty, Mary Strickler, Kim Kline, and Charles Reed. |
Presbytery Meeting Set for February 11 Mt. Olive Presbyterian Church is the site for the next Meeting of Shenandoah Presbytery scheduled for February 11, 2012 and convening at 9:30 a.m. For many this will be the first time to see the spacious new facility at Mt. Olive Church. Central Valley Mission Community is planning worship for this first of 4 gatherings in 2012. Among the items of business coming before the presbytery are changes to the Presbytery Manual in response to the changes to the Book Order. Presbytery Disaster Team Hosts Cleanup Bucket Assembly at Meeting The Presbytery's Disaster Response Team (DRT) is hosting a Gift of the Heart Cleanup Bucket assembly during the lunch break at the February 11 Meeting of Presbytery. As a result of the many storms and disasters from this past spring and summer, the Church World Service warehouse is nearly empty of disaster kits of all kinds. Since the cleanup buckets are in greatest need, are the most expensive of the kits, and present the most challenge to assembly, the DRT is offering this opportunity for the whole presbytery to be engaged in this special Gift of the Heart assembly project together. Each Mission Community has received a list of items which its churches are to bring to the meeting. If everyone brings their assigned contents, Shenandoah will have assembled 100 Cleanup Buckets at the end of the day. Please be a part of this project to help those who are effected by the floods and storms. |
