September, 2003 ~ National Evaluating Committee Ranks Gore Home Best in EECMY/KNH in Ethiopia

We received an email from Yonas, President of Illubabor Bethel Synod (IBS), that administers the Gore Home. Below is a sentence excerpted from his correspondence..

"For your information, recently we had a national evaluating committee of Hostels, and their report was that our Gore Hostel is the best hostel in the whole EECMY "

EECMY is the "Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus," the national church that IBS is a part of. KNH is a German organization that worked cooperatively with EECMY in establishing Children's Homes, or Hostels, across Ethiopia. According to Brian, there are approximately 20 "hostels," or children's homes, administered by EECMY in different parts of Ethiopia.

September, 2003 ~ iCARE Steering Committee Up and Running

January 2003, the Partnership Committee put in place a subcommittee to facilitate the work of the iCARE ministry. The sub committee was established with a Chairperson and a total of five members.

This subcommittee will correspond directly with the "Management Committee" of the Gore Home. One of the main reasons for the establishment of the committee at that time was to increase and formalize our contact with the Gore Home since Brian Gilchrest, PCUSA missionary from this Presbytery, was returning from the region to study in Harrisonburg.
