 VISA Application Instructions

The information below was copied from the Ethiopian Embassy web site on October 24, 2002. Immediately below are directions for finding and down loading a perfect and usable copy of the VISA. Details of the web site change so specific recommendations below may not be precisely correct. If you go to the site and search around a little, you will figure out how to download the visa application.

Steps:
1. Go to www.ethiopianembassy.org/
2. In the dark blue navigation bar  near the top of this page, just under the pictures,  place curser on "Consular/Visa" button. The drop down menu will offer a "visa application" option,  click it.
3. If you have "Adobe Reader" software you will have a form that will print out perfectly.  If you don't have "Adobe Reader" I recommend you download it from the site (button available beside the link.  It doesn't take up much room on your computer and is useful for many things.

The result will be a perfect, ready to fill out and mail, VISA application.  Under #18, Purpose of Visit, we recommend that you check "tourist".  This is by far the simplest answer and will help avoid lots of question that you would likely get if you put, say, business, church, worship, student, teacher, etc.

Each traveler is responsible for securing their own VISA.  In the past, on at least three occasions in the past five years, individuals have driven to the embassy to hand deliver their Passports and VISA applications.  If you do so do not count on taking the completed VISA home with you.  Note they say their processing time is two to three days.  Registered mail may be a perfectly good option.

 

  • Please choose the appropriate application above, print it and fill it out, then submit it via mail or fax to the Embassy of Ethiopia in Washington, DC. Please address the letter or fax to Embassy of Ethiopia, Visa and Passport Section.

    It is important that you send the proper payment for the service you require. It takes approximately one to two weeks to process your passport application. Please read and follow the following requirements. The Embassy will not be able to preocess your visa if you fail to do so.

    VISA REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2.ONE RECENT COLOR PASSPORT SIZE PHOTOGRAPH

  • 3.COMPLETED APPLICATION FORM.

    VISA FEE:

    Entry Visa fee..........................$70.00

    Transit Visa fee.......................$40.00

    NOTE: Visa fee payment should e made in Money Order payable to the Embasys of Ethiopiaissuedfrom a ank or the US Post Office.

    FOR RETURN OF YOUR PASSPORT:

    Depending on which method you want us to use, the cost is asfollows:

     1.By certified mail (self-addressed envelope)..............$2.00 stamps

  • 2.By express mail (self-addressed envelope)..............$10.75 stamps

  • 3.By Federal Express (self--addressed envelope)................$15.50 money order payable to Federal Express

    VISA PROCESSING TIME:

    Visa processing takes at least two to three working days provided all requirements are complete. The visa issued is valid for entry within 90 days from the date of issue.

    WORKING HOURS:

    9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

    Note:

     1.You will be asked for a yellow fever immunization certificate upon your arrival in Ethiopia. Make sure that you take the immunization certificate with you.

  • 2.During your stay in Ethiopia, your daily expense will be a minimum of US $50.00.

  • 3.Upon arrival at the airport you must declare any foreign currency to the customs authority.
