The Lyle M. Moffett Grant Fund
Funds Available to Qualifying Church or Mission Community

The purpose of the Moffett Grant Fund is to “empower congregations to
be centers for mission through the task of diakonia: sending servant leaders
to minister to the pain of a hurting world.”
Applications will receive consideration based on the following priorities:
- Small churches
- Ministries which use lay leadership
- Ministries which enhance the mission and the understanding
of mission in the local congregation
- Mission Communities
- Other congregations within the presbytery

Grants Awarded for the 2008 Grant Year
The Moffett Committee met the week of November 12, 2007, and has approved
the following grant awards for the 2008 year:
- $2000 to Waynesboro Second to start a soup Kitchen Ministry
- $1000 to New Providence to start the Mission Next Door
project
- $500 to Central Valley Mission Community to sponsor
a family through the Virginia Council of Churches Resettlement Program
- $500 to Front Royal to help the St. Luke Community Clinic
establish a fund that uninsured patients may use to pay for low cost prescriptions
- $1000 to Loch Willow to help finance youth of the church
participate in a mission trip to Baja
- $1000 to Warrenton to continue the youth group’s monthly
feeding program for residents of the The Haven.
- $1500 to Collierstown to assist with three missions
(Lunch Bunch for Seniors, Area Bible School, Area Youth Group)
- $1000 to Winchester First for scholarship assistance
so that low-income youth may participate in a mission trip to Pittsburgh.
- $1500 to Highland Memorial for Community Outreach Program
- $1400 to Highland Memorial for mission trip
- $2000 to Craigsville to assist Kids Club
- $1000 to Opequon to assist with youth participating
in the Appalachian Service Project
- $2500 to the Highland Augusta Mission Community to assist
with a mission trip to Baja.
