Nominating
Committee Dick Johnson, chair The Nominating Committee is responsible for nominating persons to serve on a wide variety of committees within the Presbytery. They also nominate commissioners and delegates to represent the Presbytery in other governing bodies within the greater church at the Synod and General Assembly levels. This committee is charged with maintaining equal and fair representation with regard to Mission Communities, ministers and lay people, and laywomen and laymen. These nominations are usually recommended for approval to Presbytery Council. The Nominating Committee is also responsible for appointing persons to fill vacancies on the committees of Presbytery caused by resignation or death.
220th General Assembly Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) June 30 – July 7, 2012 Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania The Nominating Committee shall be responsible for presenting nominees for election as Elder and Minister Commissioners and a Young Adult Advisory Delegate (YAAD) from Shenandoah Presbytery to the biennial meeting of the General Assembly. This slate shall include both commissioners and alternates for all positions, according to the representation formula defined in G-13.0102. (Currently, this includes three elder commissioners, three minister commissioners, one YAAD, and their respective alternates.) Deadline for all documents - Nominations and References - SEPTEMBER 1, 2011 Committee Descriptions Representation: Advises Presbytery with respect to membership of its committees. Meets as needed. Permanent Judicial Commission (PJC): Elected by the Presbytery to fulfill D5.0101-D.50206; D3.0101b. See chapter V-XIV Part II Book of Order. Meets as needed. Nominating: Nominates qualified persons to serve on Presbytery committees. Meets at least twice a year. Committee on Ministry (COM): Oversight of all ministers and churches, supervise vacant churches, and oversight of ministers not serving in installed positions. Meets monthly on the second Thursday. Examinations: Conducts examinations of each minister and candidate who seeks membership in the presbytery. Meets as needed on the second Thursday of the month. Professional Development: Provide and promote continuing education for church professionals. Meets several times a year. Salary: Salaries and benefits of ministers and Christian Educators. Meets as needed. Sessional Records: Annually review church Sessional records. Meets as needed. Committee on Preparation for Ministry (CPM): Oversee care of inquirers and candidates of the ministry. Meets monthly ordinarily on the third Tuesday. Budget and Finance: Develop Presbytery budget, sources of income, and monitor income and expenditures. Meets at least quarterly. Communications: Provide and oversee an effective communication system between Presbytery and its churches and members. Meets at least quarterly. Committee on Church Development: Provide support and processes for existing churches and new churches. Meets monthly ordinarily on the first Monday. Funds Administration: Responsible for review and supervision of various Presbytery funds and scholarships. Meets several times a year. Office and Personnel: Matters relating to staff and office. Meets several times a year. Resource Center: Develop and maintain Resource Center. Meets several times a year. World Wide Ministries: Global missions, partnership with Illubabor, Bethel Synod in Ethiopia, and encourages efforts on behalf of justice and compassion. Meets at least quarterly. |
