Our Vision
Charge
to the Vision and Mission Committee from Presbytery Council on May 21,
2009:
“Presbytery
Council has requested that the Vision and Mission Committee, as it presently
exists, be reactivated and that we meet and discuss how we might oversee
the self-study process as described in the excerpt from the minutes of
the January Council meeting shown here:
CCD (Committee on Church Development) strongly
encourages Shenandoah Presbytery to conduct a mission study of the Presbytery
since we are in a leadership transition time. As part of this study,
CCD strongly endorses a comprehensive evaluation of the structure and strategy
of mission communities, especially looking at their original intent and
mission.”
The Vision and Mission Committee response:
On May 21, 2009, the existing Vision
and Mission Committee, after careful and thoughtful consideration, agreed
to accept the calling of Council, and to carry out the task of the self-study.
The first step was taken, and that was discovering a name that best described
who we were. Hence, we are Shenandoah 2010, the collected
sister churches and ministries as found in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia
and West Virginia, called to be a Reformed Tradition presence in this
valley, aligned as a PCUSA presbytery, seeking in its calling and vocation
to answer the call of God in each of our lives, churches and ministries.
